the story house photos team info manuel gutierrez work status work quality buildzoom review more my aunt and uncle suffered huge finanical loss by a local seattle contractor team - who abandoned their house - and left it unlivable. this is what happened in their nightmare rennovation project that involved demitri vyzis, mia vyzis, richard singer, skypoint construction, manuel guiterrez and vyzis construction. nightmare construction project in ballard seattle hello everyone, my aunt and uncle were so excited to have recently moved to seattle. it's one of the most beautiful cities in the world and a great place to raise a family. and of course, they're so proud to be a part of the fever that is "the 12th man." we also have family in vancouver, bc, so their 4 year old son is now close to grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. the future for their family couldn't be brighter. after looking for a house for several months in the crazy seattle market, they were finally able to make a purchase. although small, it even has a little back yard for their son to safely play in. before they could move in though, it needed some remodeling as the house is quite old. then they met demitri vyzis and richard singer. after meeting with several contractors, they settled on demitri vyzis, richard singer, mia vyzis and skypoint construction. here's how the project unfolded for them.... 1. contract: signed sept. 2014 for a ten week remodel project they worked with demitri vyzis and richard singer to confirm the scope of work and details of the project. they also added electrical and insulation to the project, bringing the total scope of work up further. in the end no small amount for a small family. you can see the contract here >> (note: demitri vyzis has now started a new company pointe construction and richard singer has declared bankruptcy.) 2. payment receipts: payments were made totaling $132,658.85 all payments were made promptly when demanded. it is interesting to note that while the agreement was with skypoint construction , all invoices and payment receipts came from vyzis construction, a separate company wholly owned by demitri vyzis . you can see our payment receipts here >> 3. project status - abandoned: months after promised completion date, remains unlivable disaster the walls throughout much of the house were torn apart last fall, insulation half pulled out, knob and tube wirings half pulled out - and then completely abandoned by demitri vyzis , richard singer, mia vyzis, and the sub-contractor manuel gutierrez. my aunt and uncle were left with no electricity, no running water, no bathrooms, kitchens, heating. and they still have to make their mortgage payments to the bank and rent a temporary apartment. why? because they can't live in their house. you can see the status of their work here >> 4. quality of work: potentially life threatening not only did the contractors barely start the project, but much of the work they did was inferior and not up to the professional standards they were led to believe. it's not going to take additional costs to repair the defects and damages. rain is washing portions of the paint off the house, framing work is unsafe and a gas flue was even left venting carbon monoxide into the upstairs bathroom and bedroom area, leading to tremendous health risk for their family and toddler son. you can see more here >> 5. believe it or not, there's even more "sorry, not really a partner in the company." it appears that skypoint construction had a break up of some sort between richard singer and demitri vyzis. however, when this happened, demtri vyzis suddenly declared that afer all this time he was not really a partner in the company afterall and therefore has no responsibility for the project. convenient. all this despite introducing and representing himself as a partner, from the very first meeting. and that all their payments were made to demitri's own company, vyzis construction >> . isn’t it strange though that the url for skypoint construction now redirects to pointe construction . if demtri vyzis wasn’t a partner in skypoint, how can he redirect the url and why did he pick a name that might potentially trick people into thinking it’s the same company? www.skypointconstruction.com >> was manuel gutierrez completely overpaid for his subcontracting work? according to records provided by demitri vyzis, manuel gutierrez (the largest subcontractor on our project) was paid $60,000 for work on the house. however, despite being paid $60,000, this work has been estimated by some experts to be worth only about $20,000 - $30,000. here's where it gets interesting: demitri vyzis just recently started a new company pointe construction . manuel gutierrez has been listed as a team member with this pointe construction company. some have asked: did demitri vyzis and mia vyzis intentionally overpay manuel gutierrez for work on our house as a way of moving funds into the new company? you can read more here >> kitchen appliances it's interesting to note that after paying for their entire kitchen appliance package (kitchen, stove, dishwasher etc.) through skypoint construction, they were informed that richard singer returned them to albert lee appliances without approval - and kept the money. insulation after demitri announced that richard singer was not allowed back on the property, demitri vyzis took over the project. email dated nov. 23rd 1:19pm from demitri "i take complete responsibility for putting a manager in charge that was incompetent to run such a large project" with demitiri now running the show a cost of $9,033.75 was negotiated with demtiri to insulate the whole house. demitri promptly presented a change order for the entire amount. for $9,033.75 no insulation was ever bought, delivered or installed. no monies were returned. 6. others have had issues with the members who operate skypoint there was a recent post to buildzoom that claims fraud with skypoint construction and all the owners/members. you can see their post here >> 7. want to reach them yourself?
